چکیده

We investigated the effects of thyroid state on mechanisms underlying rat heart mitochondrial capacity to remove H2O2 produced by an exogenous source. The removal rates were higher in presence respiratory substrates independently from and hyperthyroid than hypothyroid preparations. state-linked changes rates, mirrored those release showing that endogenous do not compete for removing system. Mitochondrial content coenzyme Q9 Q10 was lower hypothyroidism hyperthyroidism suggesting production are due ubiquinone content. antioxidant enzyme inhibitors indicated contribution each is dependent state. This supported enzymatic activity measurements. Pharmacological inhibition also showed overall percentage processes, as well non-enzymatic affected Cytochrome levels, inferred light emission measurements, western blot determination cytochrome c, preparations supporting idea levels reducing compounds modified opposite way Further support obtained whole capacity, which provides evaluation systems, different cytochromes, assigned scavenging,

Red wine extract protects against oxidative-stress-induced endothelial senescence.

Red wine polyphenols may preserve endothelial function during aging. Endothelial cell senescence enhances age-related endothelial dysfunction. We investigated whether RWE (red wine extract) prevents oxidative-stress-induced senescence in HUVECs (human umbilical-vein endothelial cells). Senescence was induced by exposing HUVECs to tBHP (t-butylhydroperoxide), and quantified by senescence-associa...

Inducing mitophagy in diabetic platelets protects against severe oxidative stress

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a growing international concern. Considerable mortality and morbidity associated with diabetes mellitus arise predominantly from thrombotic cardiovascular events. Oxidative stress-mediated mitochondrial damage contributes significantly to enhanced thrombosis in DM A basal autophagy process has recently been described as playing an important role in normal platelet acti...

Colchicine protects rat skeletal muscle from ischemia/reperfusion injury by suppressing oxidative stress and inflammation

Objective(s): Neutrophils play an important role in ischemia/reperfusion (IR) induced skeletal muscle injury. Microtubules are required for neutrophil activation in response to various stimuli. This study aimed to investigate the effects of colchicine, a microtubule-disrupting agent, on skeletal muscle IR injury in a rat hindlimb ischemia model. Materials and Methods: Twenty-one Sprague-Dawley ...

The Mitochondrial-Derived Peptide Humanin Protects RPE Cells From Oxidative Stress, Senescence, and Mitochondrial Dysfunction

PURPOSE To investigate the expression of humanin (HN) in human retinal pigment epithelial (hRPE) cells and its effect on oxidative stress-induced cell death, mitochondrial bioenergetics, and senescence. METHODS Humanin localization in RPE cells and polarized RPE monolayers was assessed by confocal microscopy. Human RPE cells were treated with 150 μM tert-Butyl hydroperoxide (tBH) in the absen...

Pummelo Protects Doxorubicin-Induced Cardiac Cell Death by Reducing Oxidative Stress, Modifying Glutathione Transferase Expression, and Preventing Cellular Senescence

Citrus flavonoids have been shown to reduce cardiovascular disease (CVD) risks prominently due to their antioxidant effects. Here we investigated the protective effect of pummelo (Citrus maxima, CM) fruit juice in rat cardiac H9c2 cells against doxorubicin (DOX-) induced cytotoxicity. Four antioxidant compositions (ascorbic acid, hesperidin, naringin, and gallic acid) were determined by HPLC. C...
